BlogPower: Great event!

BlogPower was a huge success this last Saturday. The agenda was ran perfectly and we had lots of fun and what´s best, networking. I had the chance of meeting many interesting people, of which I only knew before for what they write in their weblogs, twitters, tumblelogs and flickrs. Our roundtable was one of the most commented, and it looks people had fun and understood they can earn some money from what they like, writing.

Overall a great event. Some problems with the WiFi connection although I´ve never been to a conference or event with a flawless one and trust me, I´ve been to many. I´m really looking forward for the next one. You can check pictures of the event at this Flickr Pool.

BlogPower

The 1st of december we are having a blog conference in Santiago, Chile. It´s name is BlogPower and it´s supposed to be the first out of many events the people behind this are planning. I´m invited as part of one of the roundtables, which will be moderated by my friend Manuel.

On related news, I had a late meeting yesterday which was quite succesful. I will have great news in the short term, which unfortunately I cannot disclose now. We still have to fix some stuff and I´m in negotiations with a domain owner.

Dopplr: Where next

I received an invite for Dopplr, a new web app where you can share with your contacts where you are and where you are travelling next. I would love to feel all the experience of this service, but I need to add some contacts to do so. Anyone else has a Dopplr account? Anyone wants an invite?

It snowed!

Santiago is a city that has a marvelous weather. On summers, the maximum temperature you will have to deal with is 33ºC / 91.4ºC, and in winters, it shouldn´t be below -2ºC / 28.4ºF. The only bad side about this, is that it never snows, until yesterday. Yesterday it snowed, and bigtime, we had something like 30 meters of snow in my house, that´s about 8 hours of snowing, although in downtown it seems it snowed for just and hour or an hour and a half. This was a huge event, people where in the streets throwing each other snowballs, and doing snowmans, with my brother we even did a 1 on 1 deathmatch. I love snow, just because I can haven´t had many snow scenarios, in fact for my last two winter trips to the United States, I´ve been in Philadelphia, New York and Michigan with no luck during December/January. Who said global warming! Bullshit! (j/k)

My dog had the best time catching snowballs =)

You can check out tons of snowy pictures in my Snow over Santiago Flickr set

Fauna Diseño is Online

My good friends Fernando and Rise – the artist formerly known as Eugenio – have finally uploaded the website of their design studio, Fauna Diseño (ñ -> gn like in lasagna). The website turned out pretty sweet and their portofolio is amazing. Maybe the only critic I have for them, is that it´s only in spanish, although I´m pretty confident they will upload an english version soon.

If you are looking for some amazing designers, take a look at their website and throw them a line, they can speak english and I´m sure they can give you a good quote, just tell them you know (this way I can continue to get free drinks at their office parties =) ).

Pay per review on hardware sites

Kris published a really interesting research article at DailyTech. It talks about how some hardware review sites are mixing up advertising sales and editorial content.

I must admit the article would have been quite spicy if it had names of the media involved in this practices, but on the other hand this is very big responsability. I respect Kris decision.

Kyle – HardOCP´s Editor In Chief – didn´t like the decision Kris made, and things warmed up. Kyle has a harder editorial line than Kristopher, but on the other hand I think Kris is a lot more professional*. It´s just two different work styles, I respect both but in this opportunity I think DT has my support.

Back on the article, is really worth a read. I think independent sales teams are a must, we have been looking for someone to be in charge of this for our sites, my friend Manuel – he works for a big media conglomerate and he is the EIC of their IT e-zine – told me he might know someone interested, I hope this works fine and we can work this way in the short term.

* Don´t get me wrong here, I´m not saying Kyle is not serious, I´m just saying I think his style has a lot more to do with balls and guts than Kris´ work style, that´s a lot more calculated and professional.

Blog: Daniel Negreanu

Daniel “Kid Poker” Negreanu, is a professional poker player borned in Canada. He has won several professional tournaments including 3 WSOP tournaments.negreanu.jpg Professional players are really interesting human beings, being most of them geeks, they spend a lot of time online, blogging, betting or reading. If you are big poker fan like I am, you should check out Negreanu´s blog. There you can find him talking about bets, videogames, golf and even politics.

Poker is a really interesting game, you don´t only have fun playing poker, but you can learn a lot about strategy, which you can later use in your job, daily life or even internet startups. I´ve been playing No Limit Hold´em for a while now, but I´m already starting to play Omaha, in fact last Saturday we had “Ho night”, and that´s not what you are thinking, it´s just Hold´em and Omaha :D

Painting USA

If found this practical webpage at Shawn´s blog, it paints in red the states you´ve visited within the USA. For me it´s just 9 states, not bad considering I live at least 4 thousand miles away from this country. Two of them I just knew the airport, this is Illinois and Missouri (Chicago and St. Louis), the rest I´ve been at least a day, or a night, like in the case of New York, for New Years Eve. What about you?
