My Workplace

This is where all the magic happens. I´m not trying to look cool, just to be sincere, this is the truth. In the first picture you will see where I do all the hands-on. In the corner you have the benching rig, this is a computer I´m not able to use day to day, it´s just for reviews and experiments and it´s specs change day to day. At it´s side you can see a huge 21″ CRT monitor, it can handle high resolutions needed for VGA reviews (unfortunately a 30″ LCD monitor is not on my priority list for now). The computer just beside it is an old PowerMac G3, in it´s best times it was used as an Mp3 server, nowadays is just garbage… The other computer you see – only the screen in the picture, both computers are under the desk – are used for writing, just plain writing.

The other desk is my room, here I do the business job and studying. A mess because I´m on my exams… So that´s the awful truth :P

¿Where are the feats?

As some of you might noticed, I´ve been quite away from blogging during the last days. I´ve been having some drinking fun, studying and posting news. So I´ll make a brief summary of what I´ve been up to.

Weekend

Weekend was great, on Friday night we went out for some drinks, nothing too fancy but it was enough to format my brainsoccer.jpg from all the study done during the week. On Saturday we went to see some friends to their first soccer match on one of the many females leagues here in Santiago. This was quite fun, mixing afternoon wine and – one week old – easter eggs with female soccer is always great. After the match, “our” team won 2-1, we celebrated with a nice barbeque, unfortunately once again my camera left me alone with no batteries. After the barbeque, which finished around midnight we went to a friend´s birthday till 5 AM. Partying in Santiago can be a tough job :D

On Sunday my grandfather and her wife came in for lunch, after lunch I went for our weekly Sunday Night Poker, with no success. The loosers – including me – left early and catched Mark Wahlberg´s Shooter at the local theater. Really bad movie, but at least we had a laugh.

Studying
I´m doing a great job at school, I received my marketing grades up to now, 78% and 90%, not bad at all. In to more weeks I have some exams, so wish me luck. I´m looking forward to do my practice job at the end of the year, so I really need to aprove all my courses, which shouldn´t be too hard. I´m still deciding if I´ll work here or in the United States, I have some job offers at great companies in the States but I still have plenty of time to decide.

Working
This week is Beijing´s IDF – Intel Developer Forum – I´ve been working hard keeping track from here of what´s happening over there and up to date we´ve published something over 10 different stories. On the other side, we published a new review today, comparing MSI´s P6N Platinum with ECS´ NF650iSLI T-A, both based in NVIDIA´s nForce 650i chipset for Intel processors. The first one turned out to be a great overclocker achieving 450MHz on FSB.

newpc.jpgThe rest of the week should be smooth, I just need to finish a couple of reviews – just writing – and build up my new rig. All the parts are already here – the only one who is not ready is the Biostar motherboard which BIOS chip was wrecked but it´s on the way -, I only have to decide on the case, build, install and ready :)

A new member in the family

Today I went to see my new cousin, his name is Jose Domingo, he was borned yesterday at Clinica Las Condes and weight 7.7 pounds. Everything was perfect and he is completely healthy, he should go home on Saturday with her mother.

When we arrived, Jose Domingo was in his daily checking, so we had to wait for him at my aunt´s room. The room was pretty cool, is just like a hotel, they had WiFi, DVD, Radio and even a guest minibar which of course I cleaned out. This is the best room in the hospital, a time ago I went to see a friend who had a knee operation, his room sucked compared to this one. Unfortunately my batteries where uncharged after I took two pictures to JD – which by the way went out awful – as always my camera leaves me alone when it´s important.

Steps to take over the blogosphere

As some of you already read, I have a really bad cold. The good thing is, after reading Bob´s blog I remembered how much I like blogging. After, I remembered I had a blog… duh! And finally I started the blogging rush weekend. I´m really focused in not letting it by. Blogging takes so little time and gives so much in return, that I can definitely manage to post something everyday or two. So I have already my plan to take over the blogosphere:

1.- Make sure I will really post periodically. This is a day to day work, just like rehab.

2.- Buy a domain. This should be easy, as soon as my new credit card – I lost the other plastic – is validated (it arrived today :D )

3.- Install WP and tweak it.

4.- Write, write, write. I plan to write on my daily geek adventures and a lot about Chile. You think Dim Sum and Paganis are cool Mr. Chow? Wait to see this type of funky dishes and sports cars:

5.- Take over the blogosphere.

6.- Get Rich

7.- Retire

Wasted weekend

If you are looking to a wasted party story, you found me in the wrong day. I have a terrible cold, and I have not been able to do lots of things I had planned for this weekend. I was supposed to study (I have a test on Tuesday), installing Windows Vista for a GeForce 8800GTS review, or at least write something for CHW, but I haven´t been able to do it. It´s 13:40 and I´m still in bed, but not because I want too, just because I feel so bad I´m not in the mood of doing anything else. The only productive thing I´ve done between naps and blowing my nose, is installing some widgets for this blog and posting.

I hope I will be back in action on Monday, but it will be for sure a long PITA day.

Failed goal Nº1

To have a succesful weblog in all means: funny, entertaining, traffic magnet, etc… You have to write a lot. I don´t mean writing long, but more writing a lot of posts periodically. This means writing one post a week, or one post per day, but make people know that if the come back tomorrow or in seven days, they will have something to read.

I´ve been quite busy, but I hope I can update my blog more often. I´m really working on organizing my time, and it`s starting to work good.

What´s my motherf*cking name?

One of the big problems I have when travelling is my name. This could sound weird, but it is. My real name is Juan Francisco Diez Morel, that´s two first names and two last names, one is my dad´s surname and the second one is my mother´s surname. Unlike other countries, in Chile everybody gets to keep it´s surnames when they get married, and that is why we get two different surnames, unless your parents are both brothers, which would be quite sick. Now the second deal is that Juan usually is not used alone, is used as a prefix for a second name, in this case Francisco, this is what they call a composed name. When I present myself in the United States, I just use my first name to make things simple, although I hate to use it in Chile, because it´s just like Joe, average Joe, a real common name. Anyways Juan, or Huaan like it sounds when an american or british says it, will do the trick.

BTW my friend Scott from MaximoPC has three names, one he uses in Taiwan (where he was borned), one for Argentina (Patricio) and Scott for the american folks. Now that is weird :D

A little about me

yope.jpgI´m a 24 year old chilean male into technology and computers. I´ve been writing about technology for three or four years up to date, and even though I´m still not comfortable with my writing skills, people seem to like what we´ve done in our websites. I´m one of the owners of a website network called SCONF, it reaches more than 1.000.000 readers a month.

A couple of month ago I quit school, and I´m looking forward to live strictly from our online income. I have several friends, most of them which I knew back in highschool and middle school. I enjoy good food, good drinks, beautiful women, travelling and an interesting chat. That should be enough for you up to now. Enjoy your reading :)
